Stereotypes and Lenses
UNFAIR PROJECT
When starting the Identity Web and the Unfair Project I didn’t expect how difficult it was going to be to figure my characteristics or the characteristics people saw in me. For our Identity Web we had to find words that represented me and maybe even stereotypes you hear about yourself. At first I was at a blank, I couldn’t think of one word that represented my stereotypes. Then after a while I thought of the things people say about my culture and after thinking of the negatives I realized how far away I am from those.

Theories
When it came to learning all about this theories I didn’t think I would be this intrigued. Each Theory has a different definition and all connected to our book club for the class. The theories we learned are Critical Race Theory, Psychoanalysis, Postcolonialism, Queer Theory, Feminism, Reader Response.
I find it fascinating how every single one of us sees our experiences and maybe even a way we read a book in a different lens. Before learning about these theories I knew absolutely nothing about them but soon reazlied I shared the same boat with my other classmates.

Socratic Seminar Readings
If there is one thing I love it is reading, this semester we were assigned a reading to annotate. After annotations we would come together and have a seminar specifically about the reading. I wouldn't say I am shy so these seminars to me are a way I can express my thoughts and see my classmates opinions. I always found each reading interesting, even if I didn't relate to some. I still found something I wanted to talk about and felt passionate about it.
Serial Podcast
I do not think I have ever sat down and heard a full podcast. Especially hear one so much that I tell my family to hear it. I even become so invested, I crave for more that for a moment I felt like the amateur investigator herself. I will say that when listening to each episode at one moment I thought he was guilty then another I think he is innocent. I do want to say that the American Justice System did not have enough evidence to put him in jail. When hearing this story you see that it's not just his story but everyone too. Everyone has a different lens, what they believe is right.

Book Club: “Homegoing"
Homegoing By Yaa Gyasi is about two women named Effia and Esi starting the generations that is told through family by each chapter. In each chapter, we learn about their families and the culture they grew up in. From the start you know Effia and Esi have completely different lives and even more different thoughts
I knew when reading homegoing we had to find themes and really pay attention to the story. I read a lot on my free so my method of reading are to have lots of questions throughout the book but never really close reading, so when it came to homegoing I almost didn't have a choice. Each story is a new character so every time I learn someone knew I had to remember the lens that character saw.
Homegoing critical lens was easy to spot for me, you can argue that any lens is in homegoing but for me I saw feminist theory. From reading about Effia story you see and understand that women at that time needed to conform to certain rules and as women expected to have children and be traded, at such a young ago as well. I saw thies lens even more when reading the next chapter, Esi lived a life that was complete opposite but still a slave to many men and she was alongside many women.

honors
For honors we were given articles or any type of reading and the goal was to annotate anything that stood out. From the start I was very excited for honors because I enjoy reading and I learned a lot from each reading. I won’t deny that I could work on not waiting till last minute but I know in the end I get my work done.
